The New Arrangement Involves Significant Investment by QIH In Local Education

Quinn Industrial Holdings (QIH) has demonstrated its commitment to local education by launching its Quinn People School’s Programme with St. Michael’s College in Enniskillen. The five-year partnership involves a range of initiatives to support St. Michael’s College, it is designed to combat the ‘brain drain’ that exists in the local area and it will provide a clear pathway for pupils to develop their educational attainment as well as the option to secure sustainable and highly skilled employment at QIH.

Speaking in relation to the launch of the initiative, which will take place at St. Michael’s College on Friday 17th of June, QIH CEO Liam McCaffrey commented:

“This new partnership with St. Michael’s College is part of a wider educational engagement programme that we have been developing at QIHL. We are in the process of launching our Quinn People Schools, Apprenticeships and Graduate programmes with the core aim of targeting home grown talent to build and grow the intellectual capital of the company. We are delighted that St. Michael’s College have come on-board with us and we are committed to working with them to develop sustainable careers for our future leaders.”

St Michael’s College acting Principal Mark Henry said,

“We are delighted to formalise our partnership agreement with QIHL and are looking forward to opening the new Technology and Design centre on Friday. This promises to be an exciting adventure which will be hugely beneficial to the students and the staff here at St Michael’s College. We are deeply fortunate to have such great partners in QIHL who have been hugely committed to the partnership from the outset and we look forward to further deepening this relationship in the future.”

A recent research study commissioned by the then Fermanagh District Council in response to the “Independent Review of Economic Policy (DETI & Invest NI 2009) highlighted the problem of economic export of local talent, whilst a further ETI report showed the need for a clear “line of sight” into employment from education. What this partnership is aiming to do is to address the “brain drain” of talent from Fermanagh and provide pupils with better Labour Market Information (LMI) in the local area that allows them to see the options available to them in the local economy.

The partnership with St Michael’s College includes the following elements over five year period:

  • Sponsorship of the Technology & Design Department with financial assistance towards the departments capital investment programme.
  • Bursary awards for the Top GCSE Engineering and Top GCSE Technology & Design.
  • Paid work placements for Year 13 pupils.
  • Technical support and expert assistance from Quinn Technical Experts on construction curriculum and related software tools like Autodesk Revit.
  • Open access tours of all Quinn Facilities plus dedicated mentorship from the Quinn Technical Team.
  • Access to accredited CPD modules in construction, design, structure and material.
